A Co Meath community is devastated after learning of the death of a Junior Certificate student in a road traffic crash in Moldova.

Marius Bors, 15, was killed in a car crash while on holiday with his family last weekend.

Dunshaughlin Scouts hosted a vigil to remember their lost member last night in the village.

It is understood that Marius and his father Sergio, who is from Moldova, were travelling to a function when the car was hit side-on.

It is believed his mother Victoria, baby sister and brother were following in a second car and witnessed the crash. The family had moved to Ashbourne in recent months but Marius was still involved in groups in Dunshaughlin.

A student of Dunshaughlin Community College, he was due to pick up his Junior Certificate results in the coming few weeks.

His death has left Dunshaughlin and especially the 7th Meath Scouts Group, of which he was a member, “devastated”.

“He was in the Cubs and Scouts here and had recently moved into the Ventures,” said Scout leader Pat Rathborne.

“He was a very quiet child who came out of himself during a two-week camp to Scotland in July and endeared everyone he met. Anyone who joins the Scouts learns quickly that it becomes an extended family and so this has caused ripples right across the Scout groups throughout Ireland and Scotland.

“Everyone is just shocked and shattered, and our thoughts are hugely with Marius’s family and friends at this time.
