Sauber: “Nasr accident not his fault”

Sauber boss Monisha Kaltenborn says she believes her driver Felipe Nasr was not to blame for the incident that ended his race, as well as Renault’s Jolyon Palmer. The Renault & Sauber were racing together on Lap 2 of the race when they exited the first chicane in close proximity. With the Sauber slightly in front, Nasr moved across slowly on Palmer’s line to force him to ease off. However, the British driver didn’t seem to have taken a slow fade across the racing line into account and was left with nowhere to go. The pair collided, damaging Palmer’s nose and front left, while causing a lot of damage to the right rear of Nasr’s car. The Brazilian was spun around, but managed to make it back to the pits on three wheels.

He retired shortly after, due to the damage being too great to continue.
