Sleep expert Dr Neil Stanley said six and a half days without sleep would have been torture

Prince would have been in a state of hallucination and putting an immense strain on his vital organs had he stayed awake for 154 hours before his death, according to an expert.

The icon famously went without sleep for days at a time working on his early albums, but sleep expert Dr Neil Stanley said six and a half days without sleep would have been torture.

“It’s an awfully long time and it would be a seriously difficult thing to do,” he said.

“The research in that area is very limited because beyond that it just becomes torture.”

In 1964, Randy Gardner stayed awake for 11 days straight for a study, and by day three or four he started hallucinating both audibly and visually.
