Elderly Irish woman, 91, died after being scalded by tea

An elderly woman developed sepsis after she was scalded by tea spilled on her lap while out to lunch. Daphne Anderson, 91, died after she sustained third degree burns over 6% of her body but didn’t immediately report it. Her daughter Audrey Anderson had instructed her legal team to make the court aware her preference was for a verdict of medical misadventure which she claimed was “more accurate”. Pret A Manger was warned over allergy alerts year before girl’s death, inquest told

Pret A Manger did not label “artisan” baguettes as containing sesame seeds despite six allergic reaction cases in the year before a teenager’s death, an inquest has heard. Natasha Ednan-Laperouse, 15, suffered a fatal reaction to a sandwich from the outlet, which she had not realised contained the ingredient, on July 17 2016. An inquest at West London Coroner’s Court was told the packaging failed to mention that sesame seeds were “hidden” in the dough. On Tuesday, it emerged that a “specific warning” about the dangers of not signposting the allergen had been given to the food chain the previous year. Pret baguettes described as “posh” or “artisan” were said to contain sesame seeds, including the artichoke, olive and tapenade one that Natasha ate. A complaint log for the company from between July 17, 2015...

Deceased rapper Mac Miller was 26 and had a will — similar to that of Michael Jackson

Mac Miller, a 26-year-old American rapper and music producer who died Sept. 7 in California, had a will, and its contents are similar to those of musical phenom Michael Jackson. The fact that Mr. Miller even had a will may surprise some financial advisers, given Mr. Miller's youth. Other famous, much older musicians — Aretha Franklin and Prince, to name recent examples — died without wills, tying up their substantial fortunes in a complex legal process. Mr. Miller, whose legal name was Malcolm McCormick, reportedly had a net worth of about $9 million at the time of his death, the cause of which officials have yet to verify. The Pittsburgh native released his first album, "Blue Slide Park," in 2011; it was the first independent album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart since 1995....

Suge Knight admits manslaughter over fatal confrontation

Former rap mogul Marion “Suge” Knight has pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter after he ran over two men, killing one, nearly four years ago. The Death Row Records co-founder entered the plea on Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court and has agreed to serve 28 years in prison. Knight was charged with murder, attempted murder and hit-and-run after fleeing the scene of an altercation in January 2015 outside a Compton burger stand. Knight and a consultant on the NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton were involved in a fistfight that ended with Knight clipping the man with his pick-up truck and running over businessman Terry Carter, who died from his injuries. Knight’s lawyers have said he was acting in self-defence and was fleeing armed attackers when he ran over Carter and Sloan. During Thursday’s hearing,...
