€855k awarded to woman who lost eight pints of blood

A woman who went in to hospital for a routine day procedure but ended up losing eight pints of blood when an artery was torn has been awarded over €855,000 by the High Court, writes Ann O'Loughlin. Mr Justice Kevin Cross said he accepted the expert evidence that Gina Van Amersfoorth's pain and suffering is likely to persist for the rest of her life at its present level if not worsen. Ms Van Amersfoorth, the judge said, had gone into hospital for a routine diagnostic procedure in June 2002 to establish why she was unable to get pregnant. Jim Carrey to face court over death of girlfriend

Hollywood actor, Jim Carrey will face a court battle over the death of his Tipperary-born girlfriend after he was accused in a Los Angeles court of supplying the drugs that led to her death. Cathriona White from Cappawhite, Co Tipperary, was found dead on September 28th, 2015, four days after she had fallen victim to a drugs overdose at her Los Angeles home. Her mother, Brigid Sweetman, claims that the Canadian-born 55-year-old actor provided the prescription drugs Ambien, propranolol and Percocet that she overdosed on. Mr Carrey will find a trial over his ex-girlfriend’s wrongful death “very painful”, his lawyer, Raymond Boucher, said after a date was set for the Ace Ventura star to face a jury. Tiger Woods was found asleep at the wheel

Tiger Woods Police found Tiger Woods asleep at the wheel on the side of a six-lane Florida road in the dark of morning, the engine running and his right blinker flashing. His speech was slow and slurred, and though there was no alcohol in his system, he didn’t know how far he was from home. The details contained in a police affidavit released Tuesday did little to clear up the curious circumstances of his whereabouts on Memorial Day morning, only to confirm Woods’ statement that he had not been drinking before his arrest for suspicion of DUI.
